The fennec fox, also known as the desert fox, is a beautiful yet distinguished member of the canine family. Fennec foxes can be kept as pets, although they are not very common. Once mature Fennec Foxes weigh somewhere between 2-3.5 pounds. They are also seen to sport a soft, thick, short coat that is off white on the underside and reddish or tawny on the back, with some black markings on the back and tail. True to their nature they are extremely active lithe and agile in whichever task is given to them. Though the foxes are naturally nocturnal with their heightened ability to adapt a fennec fox is capable to reschedule his routine in accordance with that of his master’s. Though Fennec foxes are naturally omnivorous an ideal diet for a pet one would be a commercial wild canid diet (such as zoos would feed). Fennec foxes are extremely active and are always on the search of an avenue to channelize their bubbling energy. Herein the master plays a superbly important role. It is unto him to leave various tasks for his pet for his routine exercise of work or else he will fall to laziness and lethargy. Owners may teach them to fetch like dogs, and this makes a good outlet for their energy. If out of a secure yard, however, they must be leashed.
