Exotic Frogs for Pets

Many people have a special fascination for frogs and they rear them up as their pets. The most important and perhaps the most well-known example of an individual who has a frog for pet is Neville Longbottom, an important character of the Harry Potter series. Neville is just one of the examples of the scores of people who rear up frogs for pets. This practice is most prominently found in the Australian region. Australia is one of the smallest continent as well as country of the world but it is rich in its wildlife. The marine life is as extensive as the terrestrial life because Australia is surrounded on all sides by the Pacific Ocean. The amphibic life is also splendid and extravagant in this region. A special emphasis can be made on the different varieties of frogs that can be found in the continent of Autrailia.

The Australian Green Tree Frog, simply Green Tree Frog in Australia, White's Tree Frog, or Dumpy Tree Frog (Litoria caerulea) is a species of tree frog native to Australia and New Guinea, which have been exported and are now being bred in New Zealand and U.S.A.The species belongs to the genus Litoria. The giant tree frog and the Green Tree Frog are larger than most Australian frogs, reaching 10 centimetres or four inches in length. The average lifespan of the frog in captivity, about sixteen years, is long in comparison with most frogs. Green Tree Frogs are docile and well suited to living near human dwellings. They are often found on windows or inside houses, eating insects drawn by the light.

Due to its physical and behavioral traits, the Green Tree Frog has become one of the most recognizable frogs in its region, and is a popular exotic pet throughout the world. The skin secretions of the frog have antibacterial and antiviral properties that may prove useful in pharmaceutical preparations.
